Keeping God's Word
Before Our Eyes

One of the things that the Lord has been teaching us recently is the importance of meditating on Scripture throughout the entire day. "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success" (Joshua 1:8).

We want God's Word to be an active part of our lives so that all of our decisions are influenced by His principles. This can only happen when we have His Word in our heart and are constantly reviewing it throughout the day. We have benefited the most by choosing chapters or verses that directly relate to the needs, character deficiencies and struggles in our lives. "Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee" (Psalm 119:11). We then write them in our journals and review them every morning, and evening. We meditate on them as much as possible and try to think of practical ways to apply the verses to our lives during the day. "Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path" (Psalm 119:105).

The Lord will transform our lives and renew our minds as we engraft His Word into our hearts. "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God" (Romans 12:2). This has been true in our own lives over the past several years. When we struggled with judging others, we meditated on Romans 14. Through that chapter, the Lord changed our attitude toward those around us. The Lord has again and again proven His promise for success through meditation on Scripture.

One practical way that we have kept God’s Word before us is through finding the verses that we needed to meditate on, printing them from our computer in a calligraphy font, framing them and hanging them on our walls. They really help to remind us throughout the day of the verses that we need to focus on in our meditation.

May the Lord richly bless you as you seek to make His Word an active part of your daily life!
